Craft Swaps

Published by kalilea at 2:51 am under Soap Making Edit This

One thing that I really miss from my soap-making days are swaps.  Although these were managed in many different ways, the ones I enjoyed the most were when a certain number of items were all sent to one central person.  That person would then make up a package containing one of each item and send it out to everyone who had participated.  This was a great way to try out the products that others had made as well as share your own creations.

There are several problems that can come from managing a swap, even one like this.  For swaps that involve higher-priced items, it’s tough for people to give up several identical pieces without knowing what they might get in return.  Plus, there are always people who claim they want to be involved, but when the time comes, they suddenly are unable to participate. It can also be a lot of work for the person who has agreed to run the swap, especially if a lot of people decide to flake.

I’ve been looking around at other blogs to see if anyone else has been running swaps lately to get some new ideas on how to run them better.  So far, I haven’t found anything.  It’s a little disappointing because I would love to become more involved with things like this, but I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be for people and why some want to stay clear.  But surely there have to be some other people out there that would think this is fun, no?
